Tutor: Mena Johnson

Create portraits and self-portraits in words, not paint. Explore self through a variety of lenses. Be realistic, abstract or surreal; the choice is yours.

Tuesday, January 14th

3:30 to 4:00: Snacks and chat

a. Let Your Words Flow

Tutor: Shelley Robinson

This workshop is for anyone seeking new ways of writing or who thinks they can't write poetry! Flow Writing invites you to let go of all the 'rules'. This is where people discover their authentic voice. Young writers in this workshop tend to write 10-30 poems/short pieces in the day!

b. Dystopian Short Fiction

Tutor: Laura Borrowdale

In this workshop, you will explore dystopian short fiction, emphasising creating characters who move through uncomfortable worlds. Learn how to craft stories that 'ring true'.

Wednesday, January 15th

10:00 to 3:30: Workshop Options

3:30 to 4:00: Snacks and chat

a. Eco Poetry to Move the World

Tutor: Gail Ingram

Write poetry about the things that really matter and how we might make change through the act of writing. We'll explore eco-poetry and practise using some key techniques to write your own impactful poetry.

b. Go Gothic

Tutor: Desna Wallace

Step into the haunting and macabre world of Gothic writing. If you dare.

Thursday, January 16th

10:00 to 3:30: Workshop Options

3:30 to 4:00: Snacks and chat

a. Doorways of the Fae: writing from other worlds

Tutor: Harley Bell

"There is a forgetting, an evaporating dream of a forest beyond the borders of our city. Creatures that once danced among us are now hidden. It is safer this way. "

Explore imaginal realms and the mythical origins of story and poetry. Write to the Fae and remember your way back home.

b. Mash It Up!

Tutor: Annabel Wilson

"Hybrid forms give us new ways to think and engage; they are specialty tools like the aye-aye’s crazy-long finger, formed to pull insect larva out of tree bark."

Bend genre, blur boundaries and experiment with hybrid forms. In this workshop, we'll mash up genres to create exciting and surprising new works.
